Bremsstrahlung cannon design for shock ignition relevant regime

چکیده

We report on the optimization of a BremsStrahlung Cannon (BSC) design for investigation laser-driven fast electron populations in shock ignition relevant experimental campaign at Laser Megajoule-PETawatt Aquitaine facility. In this regime with laser intensities 1015 W/cm2–1016 W/cm2, electrons energies ?100 keV are expected to be generated through Stimulated Raman Scattering (SRS) and Two Plasmon Decay (TPD) instabilities. The main purpose BSC our experiment is identify contribution x-ray emission from bremsstrahlung originating SRS TPD, temperatures 40 95 keV, respectively. Data analysis reconstruction distributions photons incident described.

Shock ignition target design for inertial fusion energy

Continuing work in the design of shock ignition targets is described. Because of reduced implosion velocity requirements, low target adiabats, and efficient drive by short wavelength lasers, these targets produce high gain (> 100) at laser energies well below 1 megajoule. Effects of hydrodynamic instabilities like Rayleigh-Taylor or RichtmyerMeshkov are greatly reduced in these low-aspect ratio...

Spherical Strong-Shock generation for Shock-ignition inertial fuSion

LLE Review, Volume 141 48 Introduction Shock ignition (SI)1–5 is an advanced concept in inertial confinement fusion (ICF)6 that is very promising and has the potential to provide significantly higher gains than conventional hot-spot ignition.7 SI is a two-step process where the fuel compression and ignition phases are separated by applying a highly shaped laser pulse with a duration of several ...

Hot electron measurements in ignition relevant Hohlraums on the National Ignition Facility.

On the National Ignition Facility (NIF), hot electrons generated in laser heated Hohlraums are inferred from the >20 keV bremsstrahlung emission measured with the time integrated FFLEX broadband spectrometer. New high energy (>200 keV) time resolved channels were added to infer the generated >170 keV hot electrons that can cause ignition capsule preheat. First hot electron measurements in near ...

Local Ignition in Carbon/Oxygen White Dwarfs – I: One-zone Ignition and Spherical Shock Ignition of Detonations

The details of ignition of Type Ia supernovae remain fuzzy, despite the importance of this input for any large-scale model of the final explosion. Here, we begin a process of understanding the ignition of these hotspots by examining the burning of one zone of material, and then investigate the ignition of a detonation due to rapid heating at single point. We numerically measure the ignition del...

Developing a Shock-Capturing Formulation with Higher Performance to Capture Normal Standing Shock in All-Speed Regime

The main objective of the present study is to utilize a novel linearization strategy to linearize the convection terms of the quasi-one-dimensional Euler governing equations on collocated grids and to examine its shock-capturing capabilities. To avoid a pressure checkerboard problem on the collocated grids, it is necessary to utilize two velocity definitions at each cell face. Similarly, we def...
